BILATERAL RELATIONS

• Establishment of bilateral relations:

The Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia until December 31, 1992) recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on January 8, 1992. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on January 27, 1993.

• Establishment of embassies:

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Czech Republic was established on August 15, 2007.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan was established on December 1, 2009.

• Intergovernmental Commission

"Joint Commission on economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Czech Republic" was established in 2011. Co-chairmen of the Intergovernmental Commission are Mr. Sahib Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Mr. Petr Treshnak, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic.

To date, the commission has 5 meetings. The last meeting was held in Prague on March 2-3, 2023.

• Interparliamentary relations

A working group on Azerbaijan-Czech interparliamentary relations operates in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The head of the interparliamentary group is Mr. Elnur Allahverdiyev. 

A friendship group on Czech-Azerbaijan interparliamentary relations operates in the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The head of the interparliamentary group is Mr. Jan Kubik.

• Treaties

30 documents were signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic. During the official visit of the President of the Czech Republic, H.E Mr. Milos Zeman to Azerbaijan, the "Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic" was signed on September 15, 2015.
